We got within 15 minutes of the farm, after driving through a heavy rain complete with hail, only to have it clear up with flares in the road and the services des incendies to turn us around due to a car fire up ahead around the bend. It must have just happened as the police cars and ambulance were showing up after we had turned around.
We were disappointed that we didn't make it up to the farm, but to put it in perspective, our feelings don't compare to those suffering and known to those who were in the accident. Dad's probably right in that the weather may have been the cause of the accident. As it was, my windshield wipers couldn't work fast enough and when the hail started, I turned on my hazard lights in addition to slowing to a crawl. Our relief at getting through it was met with flares that showed someone was not as lucky as us.
Hopefully, we will be able to make it up next weekend...
